The following services may be of interest to individuals

FOR ATHLETES

Individual consultations allow for current performances to be explored, values and goals to be assessed and a psychological approach to behaviour change to be put in place.

Athletes can work towards a tougher mind and become more resilient to the unhelpful experiences they may face in their sporting careers.

Individual services may include one-on-one consultations at Sport Psychology Tasmania offices, attendance at training and competition for behavioural observation and support, or consultation with coaches, parents and support staff.

*Individual consultations may be claimable on private health insurance, dependent on the individuals level of cover.  Mental Health Plan referrals can also be made through the individual’s GP

FOR COACHES

Working with a psychologist can benefit coaches, assisting them to build supportive athlete-coach relationships, as well as assisting in their  own performance as a coach.  Professional development is an important aspect of being a coach, and Sport Psychology Tasmania provides the opportunities to discuss the mental side of training and performance, building the skill set of coaching outside of the physical and technical aspect of sport.

When working with individual athletes and teams, coaches may be invited to be involved in the development of mental performance, with the permission of the athletes.  Coaches are encouraged to take on feedback and the approach that the athletes may be implementing into their performance.  Coaches are also encouraged to take on self care and put an importance on their personal well-being.

FOR PARENTS

Parents often are faced with the emotional ups and downs that come with developing a young athlete.  They can find themselves looking for guidance when managing their athletes as they build skills through experience and develop coping styles at training and in performance.  Each sporting environment offers different challenges and requirements for athletes, and parents often find themselves having to manage not only their athletes expectations, but their own, depending on what is demanded of them.

Sport Psychology Tasmania can provide parents with approaches for dealing with the changes in the individual athlete’s behaviours and moods, and education in the possibilities that they may face as the athlete develops through different levels of competition.  Often when working with young athletes, Sport Psychology Tasmania may look to engage with parents to help support the development of mental performance, as their sporting careers progress.
